One day this past week, while Juliet was playing and I was washing a few dishes, she found a spider. The first thing she did was trap it in a glass jar, and then announced that she was gonna make a house for her new friend.
Initially, she wanted to construct something out of paper, with lots of tape and maybe some glue, but I suggested that Spider might find a way to escape from such a contraption...perhaps we should build a little home in a lidded jar instead?
So that's what we did - poked some holes in the lid of a small canning jar, put a leaf and a small stick inside, and for the rest of the day she took real good care of Spider, even going so far as to declare her love for him/her.
The following morning, Juliet decided that it was time to set Spider free - I suggested the basement, because goodness knows there's lots of cobwebs (and commrades) down there, so she opened the jar, placed it on it's side, and let him/her escape into the cool, dark underworld of our old home....and then I thanked Juliet for reminding me that spiders are really pretty darn cool.
Girl - you just won mama of the year. I could handle making a (contained) home for a spider but the release would definitly be out doors ... far far away from any windows or doors! Ha!

Is that an albino spider? I'm getting the heebie-jeebies just looking at it. You're a brave soul -- as is your daughter.

Awesome.
She has such a happy face while showing off her spider.
I am glad to hear the spidey was set free to join his friends.

Good for Juliet for liking spiders. Boy Thing has developed a fear of them, I blame Harry Potter.
