I do declare, this has been the nicest Spring we've had in a long while - all this week the weather has been just lovely, so we've been out walking. Here's some pics from one of our jaunts (or rather, when the littlest one is with us, it's more of a ramble or saunter) along one of the creeks that runs through the city:
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I've been busy raking and cleaning up our yard, uncovering some flower beds and getting the pots and window boxes ready for flowers and herbs. And now a simple question for you: What's your favorite flower to plant (or watch come back) each year? I love to hear what other people are planting in their gardens. Me? As an annual I'd say Zinnias; perennially, I love Peonies, ants and all.(!)
I can't wait to see my foxgloves and hollyhocks!

I like to plant petunias but the deer like my petunias too ... we usually plant fresh herbs, especially basil - homemade pesto can't be beat.

My rose bush and bleeding hearts are my favorite. Looks like a fun day!

I did some garden clean up this weekend. I have very little sun so my perennials are all shade plants. Favorites: early spring I love bleeding hearts. Later on, I love my chartreuse hostas. For annuals, every year I have hanging baskets of fucshias by the front door. My all time favorite annuals are snap dragons and zinnias (the big State Fair variety). These are in pots in the one consistently sunny spot on my deck.

This year is the first time my proteas are blooming. They were planted 3 years ago. My Jerusalem sage is a bush on fire with yellow blooms and my Palo Verde tree is starting to bloom delicate yellow flowers too. The kangaroo paws are starting to shoot up. Our hummingbird has returned to spruce up her nest. It's spring and yet...
We have moved straight to summer here with record breaking heat this week. 97 degrees today!!! Of course, I am waiting for the A/C repairman.

Wow, do you live in the land of the giants?
I love to see crocuses because they come out first.
